This morning I was out for a walk and was greeted by my horse along the fence line. He was covered in flies and was desperately asking for his fly spray. I immediately headed for the house to grab it. I am an essential oil lover and whenever I can make a DIY with my oils, I'm there. We have been making our DIY horse fly spray for years and love a recipe that includes lemongrass, cedarwood, eucalyptus, lavender, and rosemary. But the bottle wasn't in its normal spot so I decided to look up a new recipe and give it a try.
This one called for peppermint, basil, rosemary, dish soap, cooking oil, and apple cider vinegar. I whipped it up and headed back outside to spray down my horse. Apple cider vinegar was a new smell to my old boy and made us laugh when he curled his lips.
but it has been hours since we sprayed him down and he is still resting peacefully. I'm guessing if it keeps the flies away, he won't mind the apple cider vinegar as much next time.
